District and Community Perspectives on AI in Schools
To ensure alignment with community values, teachers, students, staff and community members were polled in November 2025 on AI in Education. For the parent questionnaire, we received well over 100 responses and gathered a variety of perspectives into our community’s values and insights on artificial intelligence in schools including your concerns and the opportunities you envision for student learning. The following infographic illustrates these perspectives followed by a summary detailing the main areas of concern and anticipated benefits:

NSS AI Guidelines Steering Committee
The AI Guidelines Steering Committee is a districtwide group of educators, families, and staff working together to shape how artificial intelligence is used in Narragansett Schools. The committee’s role is to explore both the opportunities and challenges of AI in education and to recommend clear, practical guidelines that keep student learning, safety, and well-being at the center.
Guided by the Narragansett Vision of a Graduate, the committee focuses on ethical use, equity in access, age-appropriate implementation, and transparent communication with families and the community. Its work will inform the development of the district’s AI Policy and Guidelines so that new technologies support, rather than replace, strong teaching, critical thinking, and foundational skills for all learners.

Goals and Outcomes from first AI Guidelines Steering Committee Meeting
November 19, 2025
The AI Guidelines Steering Committee held its first meeting on November 19 to begin shaping districtwide policy and guidance for the use of artificial intelligence in Narragansett Schools. The group focused on establishing broad principles that will anchor the policy, including ethical use, equity in access, age-appropriate implementation, and clear expectations for students and staff. Members agreed that AI should enhance teaching and learning, not replace foundational skill development, and that transparency and proper attribution will be essential components of responsible use.
The committee also reviewed the district’s Vision of a Graduate and identified strong alignment between its core traits and the skills students will need when engaging with AI, particularly in communication, critical thinking, integrity, and digital citizenship.
Finally, the team discussed both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in schools, noting its potential to support diverse learners, accelerate research and feedback, and expand creative learning, while also acknowledging risks related to overreliance, plagiarism concerns, and the need for ongoing monitoring and adaptation.
This meeting set the groundwork for drafting the first version of the district’s AI Policy and Guidelines, which will continue to evolve as the committee’s work progresses.
