Weather Closure Update for 2.25.26

Weather Closure Update for 2.25.26
Posted on 02/25/2026
Dear NSS Community,

Due to the continuing effects of the blizzard, Narragansett schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 26th.

I know you join me in appreciation for the extraordinary efforts of our town DPW crews and NSS maintenance and custodial staff to clear the snow and ensure our roads are safe for travel and our buildings are safe for occupancy. Unfortunately, the enormity of the task means that it takes extra time to clear roads to the point where buses can safely access all routes, especially in the Northern part of town. Please understand that everyone is working as hard as they can to ensure safe travel for our students, families, and staff.

Additionally, many of our teachers and staff members live in areas where secondary roads have not yet been plowed, making it impossible for them to get to school. We are monitoring the progress of recovery in surrounding towns as well as in Narragansett to ensure we have a staffing level that enables us to safely open.

I appreciate your patience as we work through the process of clean up after this extraordinary weather event. I do understand that it can be challenging for families when there is an emergency closure of school. We are hopeful that we will be able to open on Friday.

Please reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,
Dr. Peter Cummings
Superintendent
