School Back in Session 2.27.2026

A Message from Dr. Cummings,

I hope you all continue to have success digging out from the storm! Narragansett Schools WILL be open tomorrow, Friday February 27th.

We plan to open on our regular schedule. Please allow extra time if you drop your child off at school or if your child is a high school student who drives to school. Please be aware that buses may be somewhat delayed during both the morning and afternoon runs, particularly toward the ends of routes. While roads are passable, they are still narrower than usual and we want our drivers to be as cautious as possible. If your regular bus stop is snow covered or not accessible, please find a safe spot in the same general area (think end of a plowed driveway, etc.) and our drivers will find you.

I want to again express our thanks to our Narragansett School System Maintenance and Operations staff, the Town of Narragansett DPW, and the Narragansett Emergency Management team for ensuring our area is safe for travel and for students to return to school. As we have all experienced, clearing this historic level of snow is an extremely challenging task, and it is to their great credit that we are opening tomorrow!

I have received several questions regarding “make-up days” following the recent storm. One of the reasons Narragansett extended the length of the school day this year was to build flexibility into our calendar and exceed the state’s minimum required instructional hours. As a result, RIDE approved our request last spring so students would not need to make-up up to four emergency closure days. To date, we have used three of those approved days. Additionally, the two days associated with the Governor’s Declaration of Emergency may be eligible for waiver by the State.

Please reach out with any questions.

Dr. Peter Cummings
