The Narragansett School System’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, part of the district's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Agricultural Science program, achieved remarkable success at the 97th National FFA Convention & Expo held in Indianapolis from October 23-26. Competing against thousands of students nationwide, our students excelled in various events, demonstrating their passion and dedication to agricultural science and leadership.
- Olivia Myers received a Gold ranking in Dairy Handling, recognizing her exceptional skill in presenting dairy cattle during the National FFA Dairy Cattle Management and Evaluation Career Development Event.
- Addison Stedman, Jack McElkenny, Mackenzie Martin, and Grant Conrady earned Bronze in Milk Quality, demonstrating their proficiency in raw milk quality assessment, dairy product safety, and processing, as well as facility sanitation and labor practices.
- Gavin Jones, Alaina Waters-Kitt, Addison Bonner, and Abigail Gibbs achieved a Bronze ranking in Ag Sales, highlighting their skills in agricultural sales techniques essential for successful product promotion and consumer relations.
- Emma Roeben earned Bronze in Prepared Public Speaking for her memorized 5-8 minute speech on ‘the impact of bedding on milk quality in dairy cows,’ which was previously reviewed by judges to ensure readiness and depth.
- Jaelynn Gonzalez proudly represented Rhode Island as the Flag Bearer at the opening ceremony, attended by 71,000 people, with many more viewing virtually from across the nation.
Students also networked with peers and explored educational and career paths at the Expo Center. They participated in a National Day of Service, helping to clear brush and shrubs in an Indianapolis City Park. As part of the Courtesy Corps, students volunteered at the convention's Mega Store and assisted in various roles, gaining hands-on experience in event management.
The FFA students’ achievements and commitment to service exemplify the strong foundation provided by Narragansett’s Agricultural Science CTE program, which prepares students for diverse roles in agriculture and related industries, emphasizing real-world skills and leadership.
