Congratulations to Mr. Toby Gibbons, who was named the Assistant Principal of the Year by Rhode Island Association of School Principals!
Narragansett High School Principal Dan Warner nominated Mr. Gibbons back in October due to his work at Narragansett High School and how greatly it has influenced the many students and faculty he has worked with over the past 7 years he has served in this role.
Mr. Gibbons was honored at a ceremony at Narragansett High School on Wednesday morning, December 4th with the entire faculty and student body in attendance. The executive director of the RIASP, Don Rebello, was present as well to announce that Mr. Gibbons was chosen.
Principal Warner shared that the assistant principal is truly the day to day operations for the school. Mr. Gibbons spends a majority of time with students and faculty, helping in whichever ways needed. One of the most crucial pieces to his role was how he showed unparalleled support when Principal Warner was on medical leave for 4 months receiving his life-saving kidney transplant. Mr. Gibbons stepped in as the interim principal and seamlessly continued Principal Warner's vision so the school didn’t miss a beat.
When Principal Warner was asked, the three words that describes Mr. Gibbons are Advocate, personable, and visionary. Students can count on him to meet whatever needs they have as well as hold a strong respect for him for his discipline, which enables students to continually achieve success.
In spring of 2020, a formal recognition dinner is planned where Mr. Gibbons will join the new Rhode Island Principal of the Year as well as all the first year principals across the state to celebrate this well-deserved accolade.
