You Don't Have To Live In Narragansett To Start Your
Mariner Journey

The Narragansett School System is so proud to offer high school students in and outside of our district the opportunity to take part in our CTE (Career and Technical) program, which hosts advanced and extensive courses with unique hands on experience.

About our Program
Our school's program is designed for students preparing for careers, giving them the chance to obtain hands-on experience while learning trades and specialties to launch their college careers.  We are one of more than 54 high schools in the network, all working together to prepare students early on for a successful career. Read a wonderful write-up featured in PBN and authored by our Superintendent, Dr. Peter Cummings, about how CTE Programs boost local innovation HERE.

Narragansett High School CTE Courses

Mechanical Trades- Plumbing: Our newest program offering, Mechanical Trades- Plumbing, provides students hands-on training and apprenticeship opportunities with new partner, Rhode Island's Local 51. Students will take courses focused on plumbing with a chance to also explore construction management, pipe fitting, and welding. These programs are all built to enrich student experience and create lifelong skills. Upon completion of the program, students will be certified to begin their apprenticeship as a full member of RI UA Local 51.

Agricultural Science: Over the past few years, students have been able to take part in CTE through our exceptional Agricultural Science program.  In addition to a wide range of focused curriculum and training, students have hosted the Mariner Marketplace, where they grow and sell plants and other farm fresh options for the season.  Read more HERE.  In addition, students take care of the school's hens, selling fresh eggs throughout the year and work in the Sugar Shack, where they tap maple trees making fresh maple syrup to sell as well.
We are also pleased to host many of our classes in our state-of-the-art greenhouse from Holland.

Information and Computer Technology:
New in 2017 is the addition of our CTE Computer Technology program. Thanks to a newly received state grant of $50,000, we will be able to expand our Information and Computer Technology (ICT) Program in grades 9 through 12 and developing a curriculum for grades K through 8. Students will learn everything from coding and video game development to virtual reality animation programs; all with a goal to enrich student experience and create lifelong skills.

Why our Program is Different:
Students enrolled in our CTE program have the rare opportunity to be a part of CTE while still remaining a full-time member of the high school. Students may also access advanced placement and other college credit classes while still earning certificates in career-ready fields.  We are proud to offer this inclusive experience to students both in and out of our district.
